Exploring a line that curves around to meet itself – beginning to end. Print into a flat surface of clay or with printing ink onto paper, pictures or patterns using circle shapes e.g. printing with a selection of round objects or vegetable printing using cut potatoes, carrots etc. Draw bubble pictures or patterns or designs. Make pictures with a selection of different sized and different coloured circles. Create patterns using only circle shapes. Take pictures of circular patterns. Using circle shapes create other shapes such as a moon crescent, vehen diagram’s etc Resource pictures of crop circles. Using a geometry compass create pictures and patterns. Using a geometry compass create straight sided geometric shapes from circle designs, pictures and patterns. |
This is a lovely picture that incorporates (a)straight lines, (b)curved lines and (c)circles. When each of these three elements of design (a), (b) and (c) have been explored individuallyhey can be incorporated into one design as illustrated in the photograph above.
This Embroidery also presents a practical illustration of a straight line design that is used to create an impressive circular design.
The flower of life
This design is seen in the natural world as a reoccurring and fundamental aspect of life and growth. In sacred geometry ‘The flower of life’ is an accurate construction of circles linked together in a mathematically accurate pattern. Every individual circle is linked with circular movements i.e. patterns to all the other circles. Once the first circle has been linked to the second the overlapping lines create two points through which the next circle is to be drawn. This process grows into the sacred geometric pattern known as the flower of life. It is presented that the successful creation of this design by any individual has a direct relationship with that individual’s level of consciousness.
Children exploring with circles initially draw them with no sense of linear alinement or overlapping patterns. Using a clear Perspex circle or a compass enables us to link circles into linear and overlapping patterns. Maybe these activities in themselves can encourage intellectual and emotional aspects of human consciousness and encourage us to expand our level of consciousness.
