Exploring Circles
The flower of life
This design is seen in the natural world as a reoccurring and fundamental aspect of life and growth. In sacred geometry ‘The flower of life’ is an accurate construction of circles linked together in a mathematically accurate pattern. Every individual circle is linked with circular movements i.e. patterns to all the other circles. Once the first circle has been linked to the second the overlapping lines create two points through which the next circle is to be drawn. This process grows into the sacred geometric pattern known as the flower of life. It is presented that the successful creation of this design by any individual has a direct relationship with that individual’s level of consciousness.
Children exploring with circles initially draw them with no sense of linear alinement or overlapping patterns. Using a clear Perspex circle or a compass enables us to link circles into linear and overlapping patterns. Maybe these activities in themselves can encourage intellectual and emotional aspects of human consciousness and encourage us to expand our level of consciousness.
